Photographers Rally for Rights in Hollywood
Just a quick note on this topic… I might cover it more in-depth later. I went to a photographers rights rally in Los Angeles on June 1st, and it was a great event for both educating people and grabbing some awesome shots. There are quite a few photos in the Flickr group currently, and there was even a video made that covered the event (thanks to Naomi Mercer). Check it out, I'm in the video (I'm the one wearing the TLR)! Our buddy, Bryan Villarin, is also in the video!

June 5, 2008Sounds like things are a bit tough for you guys over there.
3 cameras! Man, I can’t even deal with one round my neck. I carry them all in my pack and just dig them out one at a time. Slow I guess, but works for me.
Lots of chimping 😀
That dress must of been cold 😀 Oh wait, summer for you guys now? Or close anyway.
Late=randomness. Thanks for the link. It was interesting to watch.

June 5, 2008You guys should do this more often… I’m guessing what the the hell are they afraid you guys gonna do with a camera…
I recall that 9/11 was done with airplanes not cameras so, I do think it’s kind of a stupid excuse for people not to take pictures…

June 5, 2008Just saw a video from a news station in Washington DC. Apparently the security guards there have been super anal about people photographing Union Station. They were on the air with the guy who ran the Amtrak part of the station interviewing him. He stated unequivocally that people are more than welcome to take pictures or video in the station. In the middle of the interview a security guard interrupted them and told them to stop filming. You couldn’t make this stuff up.

June 5, 2008“You’re an artist, not a terrorist.” Hmm. They are not mutually exclusive.
Aside from that, very interesting. I rarely get harassed, and I’ve photographed all over the country. The ONLY place I have ever been stopped is Union Station in D.C., which is not uncommon (as noted above).
It would have just been cool to hang out with so many great photographers.

June 5, 2008@the_wolf_brigade It’s not all bad over here. I still think the folks over in the UK have it worse than we do. And yeah, 3 cameras around the neck was a little cumbersome. I should’ve put the dSLR in the bag… I think I only took about 20 photos with it all day.
@c3l5o I’m not sure what all the hype is about. It’s sad that people are being trained to think and act this way toward photographers.
@Jeff D Wow, that’s insane! We hit LA’s Union Station after Hollywood Blvd and we didn’t have any problems with security guards or police. They were watching us, but I don’t think anybody got hassled.
@dawn We definitely had a lot of neat photographers out there. I don’t know what the official count was, but over the course of the entire day I wouldn’t be surprised if we had 40 or 50 photographers show up for some amount of time. It seems like every time I met back up with the group, there were new faces present. It’s funny too, I actually encountered several pro photographers without their cameras (just out on the streets). Several of them approached me because of the TLR around my neck (I even found another Minolta collector!).

June 5, 2008So funny you have this on your blog today. My husband sent me a link to Bruce Schinders blog about the whole photographer terrorist thing. Mr. Schnider said that the whole scare is nothing but a made up hollywood fear.
